Constructing Castles

 Last week in Te Ngahere for maths we got to try out castle constructions which were based on measurements. When we tried out this task first we had to get into groups and then we had to use all the measurements provided to create our castle. We had to do this on a card and they were allowed to be any color we would like then we got started. We ended up starting with the wall of the castle, the measurements for them we're 15 by 8 plus a tab which was 1 centimeter and we had seven of these. Next we  cut and measured the rectangular and circular   towers and the measurements for thoses we're 20 by 11 for the circular ones and we needed 2 of those and 20 by 10 for the rectangular ones and we needed four of them. Then we needed circle cut outs with the circumference as 16.4 cm, we used a compass and a ruler to measure this. Once we had everything cut out we then started actually cutting them out and constructing our castle. I found this really hard at first because I had no idea what to do but then I started getting the hang of it and it got really fun and easy.

Beginners Guide To Our Treasure Hunt

A few weeks ago we got to participate in a treasure hunt around our school. This treasure hunt was hosted to raise money for the “I am hope” foundation which helps kiwi kids with mental health and provides counselling and support when they need it. Also instead of the prizes there were cards that were  the shape of a gumboot that had a number on the back which represents the prize you will  receive. For this treasure hunt we first were given all the rules, there were no prizes inside any buildings and as soon as you found a card you had to return that card to the teacher before you found another one. We were allowed as much time as we needed to find all the prizes. Once all the cards were found we then sat down and all the prizes were handed out. Even though I didn’t find any prizes I still really enjoyed this treasure hunt because it was for a good cause and I got to see lots of other people win fun prizes.Have you ever participated in a treasure hunt?

How I Created A Perfect Kawa Of Care

The past few weeks here in Te Ngahere we have been learning about kawa of care but for some students in our class it was just rewinding there learning. Kawa of care is something that teaches us how to take care of our chromebooks and things you should do/shouldn’t do when around your chromebook. After looking over the kawa of care we were then told to create a DLO to show what we learnt. Also we only had to put one thing from the kawa of care in our DLO. I decided to create a poster. I ended up making my DLO about the risk of having your chromebook charger somewhere where no one can see it and trip over it. I liked doing this because I can teach other people how to look after their chromebook as well as learning something new myself.

A Guide To Learning All About Prime Numbers

This week in Te Ngahere we have been learning all about prime numbers and factors. When we tried out factors and prime numbers we were given an activity that involves both factors and prime numbers. With the activity we were given there was a shoelace factory that had one hundred machines. These machines are what they use to stretch out the shoe laces, each lace comes ten cm long and once it goes through a machine it’s multiplied by that number(eg: once a lace goes through the number 5 machine it becomes 50 cm). One day in the factory they were given an urgent order for a pair of shoes that required the laces to go through the number 6 machine but the machine was broken so they instead used the 2 and 3 machine to make six. After this day the boss of the company realised they did not need the number 6 machine. Our task was to figure out which other machines were unnecessary in the company. Here is my DLO I created to show how I worked this problem out. I personally found this easy but one difficult part of it was actually trying to find the prime numbers because we had to check that they had no other factors. Te Reo Maori From My Experience

Last week here in Te Ngahere we have been learning how to read/pronounce Te Reo Maori. With this task we were given we had to create a DLO(digital learning object) based on activities you can do on a sports field.  First we had to write  a script that had to include five correct sentences in Te Reo Maori. When we finished our script and it was marked finished we then made our DLO using our success criteria. Our success criteria was that we had to have our five sentences included, we had to have pictures related to the activities you wrote about and you must have a screencastify with you pronouncing all of your sentences. Personally I found this really easy and fun. I’ve always  liked learning about different cultures  but I find Improving my knowledge on my own culture can be even more fun.

Mosaic Art

The last few weeks in Te Ngahere we have been trying digital art. The specific digital art we tried was to try create a mosaic which is an image that is put together by lots of little pieces or shapes an do that on a google drawing. To do this we first selected an image of an animal or someone you consider a role model then paste that to your google doc. Next you can either use the polyline tool or the shapes tool or both and once you decide which one you would like to  use you then color those shapes in the exact same color as the picture you choose and you continue doing  that until your whole picture is filled in. A quick tip, if you want detail on your mosaic it pays to zoom in on your picture. When we finished our mosaic we then deleted the picture we started with and added a background color  to make our mosaic stand out.  When I  did this art I found it quite difficult at  first because I couldn’t figure out how to do a specific part of the picture I choose but after that the task was really easy and fun. Universal Ball

Universal Ball

The last few weeks in  Te Ngahere for P.E our class have been playing a new game called Universal Ball. For this game the location we had to play was the basketball court which was kinda difficult for certain games. The way to play Universal ball is quite simple, you first split the class into two teams, then the teacher calls out a number and that’s the amount of people in your team that have to run around the hoop to the centre of the court. The teacher then throws a ball in the centre of the court and tells you which game to start  playing based on the ball( Eg: Basketball, Netball ETC…) and you play that game until someone on either team scores a point. When someone does score the people playing now  go back and the teacher calls  another number and the next people than get to play. This game is actually really simple once you get the hang of it and sometimes we even got confused about which game we were playing.
