Learning How To Surf the Web

In Te Ngahere for cybersmart we did an activity called “Smart Surfing”. In this activity we learnt how to search the internet properly to find the most accurate results by using keywords of a questions. So instead of using the entire question we used keywords to search the web.

For this activity we were given questions and we had to identify the key words. Next we choose one question to research about and instead of using the full question we used the keywords.

I found this difficult at first because I didn’t know which words were key words in each sentence. The easy part was just researching the question I chose.

Do you research like this to get the most accurate results?

My New Learning About Different Types Of Sentences

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about three different types of sentences, complex, simple and compound sentences. First we were given a toolkit which explains  each type of sentence and helps us to understand them better. Then we had to give an example of each type. We gave sentences based on three different images and we had to write about what we saw on the picture.

I liked this activity because we got to be creative when we were writing each type of sentence. I thought that this was actually really easy too.

Here is my DLO to show what each sentence type is.

Have you ever learnt about different sentence types?

Expanding my Knowledge On Language Features

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to identify and use the correct language features in an explain writing. First we were given a text to read about the Pohutukawa Tree then we had to highlight the words/phrases we thought would fit in each language feature column.

We also had to highlight the words based on which language feature column they were under. For language features we had present tense verbs, action verbs, cause and effect words, objective reasoned tone and passive voice.

Something I found difficult in this activity was trying to figure out if the phrases in the text went into the objective reasoned tone or passive voice column. The easy part was definitely just identifying the verbs, that was the simplest part for me.

Did you think you would find this activity easy or difficult?
